internal family systems?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a compassionate, transformative, non pathologising approach to psychotherapy that views the mind as composed of various parts. These parts represent different aspects of ourselves, each taking on roles to protect and manage our emotional world. While these parts have good intentions, they can also carry burdens from past experiences, such as pain, fear, or self-criticism, that influence how we respond to present situations.

At the heart of IFS is the belief in the existence of the Self - a calm, compassionate, and wise part of you that can lead your internal system. Through IFS, we work to unburden and heal the parts carrying trauma, creating more space for your true Self to guide you. This process fosters greater clarity, freedom, and self-compassion, empowering you to live authentically and respond to life’s challenges with calm and confidence.

What do ifs sessions look like?

These weekly sessions provide a consistent, focused time for you to delve into your thoughts, feelings, and experiences. We’ll go at your pace - whether that’s through talking, IFS parts work, or a mix of both. Every session is guided by what feels right for you in the moment, without any agenda or expectation.

Each session is tailored to meet you where you are on your journey. The space is yours to explore your inner world at your own pace. With IFS we'd begin by checking in and discussing how you’re feeling and what might be coming up for you.

From there, we’ll engage in a curious, non-judgmental exploration of your internal parts - those aspects of yourself that carry specific thoughts, feelings, or reactions. Through gentle guidance, we’ll work together to understand these parts and their protective roles, allowing them to communicate their needs.

As you build trust with these parts, you may discover that they hold burdens from past pain or trauma. When they are ready, we can begin the unburdening process, allowing your true Self to emerge with greater clarity and calm. This approach emphasizes safety first, inviting a gentle but courageous exploration of your inner experience.

Throughout the session, you may choose to reflect, pause, or dive deeper. I hope to create a safe, warm environment where you feel supported as you navigate this journey.

Sessions can be 60 or 90 minutes long, depending on what we’ve prearranged, and the therapeutic process unfolds gradually, attuned to your readiness and comfort. I also plan to introduce monthly IFS group meditation sessions for all past and present clients, providing an additional layer of community support.
