frequently asked questions

If you have any questions that aren't listed below, please don't hesitate to get in touch.

1. What is the IFS model, and how does it work?
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a therapeutic approach that views the mind as made up of different "parts," each with its own role and perspective. IFS focuses on understanding these parts and their protective functions, allowing us to unburden those carrying pain or trauma. By fostering the Self—the calm and compassionate leader within—we can achieve greater clarity, freedom, and self-compassion.

2. What can I expect in a therapy session?
In each session, we will check in on how you're feeling and what is coming up for you. The space is yours to explore at your own pace, whether that involves talking, engaging in IFS parts work, or a mix of both. Sessions are guided by what feels right for you in the moment, with no agenda or expectation.

3. How long are the therapy sessions, and how often do they occur?
I offer 60-minute and 90-minute sessions, typically on a weekly basis. This consistent, focused time allows you to explore your thoughts and feelings deeply.

4. How do I know if therapy is right for me?
If you’re feeling stuck, struggling with past trauma, or seeking a deeper understanding of yourself, therapy can be a beneficial space for exploration and healing. It’s normal to have questions or uncertainties, and a free consultation can help you determine if we are a good fit.

5. Is online therapy as effective as in-person sessions?
Yes! Many clients find online therapy to be equally effective, especially with IFS, as it allows for comfort and flexibility. Being in a familiar environment can facilitate deeper exploration and reflection.

6. What if I have specific issues or concerns I want to address?
Your unique needs are prioritised in therapy. You are welcome to bring any specific concerns or issues to our sessions, and we will work together to explore them at your pace.

7. Do I have to share everything about my past?
No, you are not required to share anything you’re not comfortable with. Therapy is a safe space, and you can choose what to disclose at your own pace.

8. How do I prepare for my first session?
To prepare for your first session, simply find a quiet and comfortable space where you feel safe to speak. You may also want to reflect on your goals for therapy or any specific issues you'd like to discuss. It can also be helpful to have a journal handy for post session reflections.

9. What are your qualifications and experience?
I am a registered person-centered therapist trained in Internal Family Systems (IFS) by the Internal Family Systems Institute. . My professional background includes a degree in Person-Centered Counselling and Psychotherapy, along with experience working at Safeline, where I supported survivors of trauma. Please see my Hello page for more info.

10. How do I schedule a session or consultation?
You can schedule a session or a free consultation by contacting me through the website. I will respond promptly to arrange a time that works for you.

11. What is your cancellation policy?
I request that you provide at least 24 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. This allows me to offer that time slot to other clients who may need it.

12. Will my sessions be confidential?
Yes, confidentiality is a cornerstone of therapy. What you share in our sessions remains private, except in certain legal or ethical circumstances where I may be required to disclose information for safety reasons.
